March 24, 2009. DAY 4.

In front of the Bonnie & Clyde Ambush Museum in Gibsland, LA. This place is owned and operated by L.J. "Boots" Hinton, son of lawman Ted Hinton, who took part in the shootout that ended the lives of Clyde Barrow and Bonnie Parker May 23, 1934. This place is stuffed full of memorabilia and artifacts and "Boots" would like nothing better than to talk (and talk and talk and talk) to you about it. Pretty low-key operation though...Boots actually locked me alone inside the museum while he went down the street to pickup his lunch...funny. One last interesting tidbit: I walked into this place on what would have been Clyde Barrow's 100th birthday: he was born March 24, 1909. I thought that was kind of weird...

Vicksburg National Military Park.

I pulled into Vicksburg in the early evening last night, just like I had planned, but the "kampground" I had reviewed online proved to be a complete dump, so...
I pulled into the Battlefield Inn located next door and laid out 65 well-spent dollars for a rate that included to 2 complimentary happy-hour cocktails, redeemable in the lobby. The Battlefield Inn comes highly recommended by me...I really enjoyed my brief stay there...very old-skool...but with a fantastic restaurant: I had the greatest $12 catfish dinner in my life...it came with a crabmeat sidedish and steamed vegetables...grilled to perfection.

Today, I drove through the Vicksburg battlefield, located high in the hills surrounding the town. A bit too many monuments, as compared to, say, Shiloh, for my taste. Also drove throught the historic river-side Vicksburg before heading west towards Texas...
